View Full Version : Guitar sound on new album
The guy who sold the Chimaira guys their new amps (ENGL) posted this on a message board:
Rob Arnold is using the Powerball and Matt is using the Savage which makes for a totally lethal mix! They will be on the new album and they hit the studiol earlier last month. After having them for a couple week's they called me to tell me how satisfied they were and that alot of their friend's who have listened to some track's of their new song's were mostlcommenting on the kickass recorded tone as opposed to the song's

its just anouther point to why this new album is ganna rule and is ganna make 2005 the best metal year ever
I noticed Rammestien playing with Engls in their video for "Kiene Lust", and well Rammestien have always had a huge sound, so yeah, I am looking forward to hearing them on the Chimaira album.
I think its pretty cool the band are going out of their way to get a great sound. They could have so easily went down the Mesa/Boogie road.....not a bad thing in general, I mean, Mesa's sound awesome, but EVERYONE uses them virtually.

It suprised me they didn't get a Krank ! :D
Since everybody seems to switch to Krank... :o)

I don't know where you're from, but over here (Belgium), there isn't much of a difference in price between a Peavey 5150 II or an ENGL Powerball.
I paid my 5150 II 1300 and my Powerball 1450 ...
The new ENGL SE is what i would call extremely expensive, 3000

Yes the SE is the motherload, but I consider it $1,000-1,500 American a lot to spend on an Amp head, which is what the 5150's and the Powerball's go for
This sounds good :p
I hope the sounds are even more sick than on TIOR.Can't wait for this record.

For an idea of how the ENGL powerball sounds, check out Caliban's new album: The Opposite From Within. It's not too different sounding from TIOR sound but some could say its slightly thicker.

Awesome. I just realised that the "Savage Beast" Amp sim on my V-Amp 2 is actually based on the Engl Savage!
I have been using that amp sim on and off for ages!

That guy was me:D . Rob and Matt are really cool guy's and from talking to them they have been extremely satisfied with the Engl's. I see in a recent pic you posted that they are also using an Uberschall too. That makes for a great mix of extremely heavy ass kicking tones capable of making walls crumble!! I can't wait to hear this album especially with one of my favorite drummers in the world KEVIN TALLEY!! Seriously IMO Kevin is going to make Chimaira better than ever!!!!

Hey Derek, nice to see ya on the Chimmy board !
To be honest, i'm selling my Herbert to get me a Powerball or Savage again.
Has nothing to do with Chimaira using these amps, but the Herb 'is a too much of amp for me' :o)

Cool Mucko!! Your past Engl recording's alway's sounded awesome to me. Good luck. And FYI I just talked to Rob earlier today and they are using both the PB and Uber for the new Record which is a great combo but live they will be using the Savage and Powerball if I understood him correctly.
