View Full Version : Should Chimaira record a Pantera cover for the new album?

I think this was discussed on the old board, but i'm going to make a poll anyway. Since they've done Pantera covers live, do you think it would be a good or bad idea to put one on the new album as a tribute to Dime?

I think it would be a good idea.

No.

I think it's great that Chimaira haven't included any of their covers on their main albums. It's great to hear them but I like Fresh material for albums and I don't want them to be known for being the band that covered blah blah or have their whole new album judged on that cover, which is invitable to happen.

Should cover Floods.

It's sounds like a nice thing to do.......but I'm not really keen on covers

Nah, It should just be a Chimaira album. And Dimebag left Pantera anyway so what's the point in dedicating a Pantera song to the band he left? If anything they should have something for him in the booklet

i think they should record one and put it on as a hidden track. Just to pay homage to Dimebag.

hmmm.... naaaaah. i agree with malakian somewhat plus the cover will just add one more factor to complicate whether the album would go over well or not to particular scenes/people(with the whole dimebag thing and everything). who even knows for sure how the new album's going to turn out anyways?

It would definetely sound different from the rest of the album, when I saw them live, they didn't play any covers, so i'm interested to hear what they'd sound like covering Pantera. I guess it all depends on whether they'd want to pay some sort of tribute to Dime on a release, covering one of his songs would make a great tribute I reckon.

Of course no one knows how it will turn out, for all we know, they could be planning to record an MC Hammer cover for the new album :o)

no. they are doing amazing without covers they just wouldnt fit with them i dont like it when bands "release" covers on albums. but sometimes its cool when they randomly do one live.

I just think it would be cool for them to sound check the guitars to "walk!" People know they are pantera fans, so why do a cover. Maybe cover one for a tribute album.

spooner666

it sounds cool but its up to them, it would be cool as a bonus track.

It would be cool. They should do Slaugthered! That would kick ass

nah, Chimaira should make their own songs, maybe they could do a cover live and put it as a bonus track, but I don't really need a Pantera cover on the album

spooner666

fuck yea Slaugthered would be cool but yet again its up to them and it probably wont happen.

mabey mark will let us know?

I think they should record one as a B-side, so they could re;ease it as part of a special edition of the new album.

as long as the special edition comes out at the same time as the normal version of the album.

I voted it as a bad idea, although would be cool on a b-side.

there's no need in them doing a pantera cover for the new album.

I think you should leave it up to the band to decide what they want to do with the album...

What kind of a remark is that? Loosen up.

I think that they shouldn't do a pantera cover because they are their own band that do their own songs although they could put it on a bonus CD which would probably make more sense.

Polls like these are redundant and pointless.

Actually it creates interesting debate/discussion about the band, rather than 3 pages of "OMG, Mark cut his hair" 8-)

JotunArchetype

A cover would be pointless, especially of something Dime made, as it's already been done to perfection by the originators.

And yeah this poll was a little pointless, but I think stuff like "OMFG WTFLOLZ!one markz cut his dreadz off lolz!!" stuff is a bit stupid too, ah well, forums are forums!

no because they dont need to cover anybody else there doing there own thing and thats what i like i want to hear there own stuff.

What i think they should is do a cover of a pantera song only if they do a compliation cd like they did for the singer of snot. Get a bunch of artists and to do it now that would be the only way i see them doing a cover on an album

fuct666
03-03-05, 08:57 AM
I say no. Get a Dimebag bracelet instead.

i agree^^^

if that ever happens i'd love to hear this bands cover PANTERA

-killswitch engage = hollow
-chimaira = mouth 4 war
-byzantine = cowboys from hell
-lamb of god = a new level
-slipknot = 5 minutes alone
-machine head = shedding skin
-sevendust = walk

it would be cool of them to do it live, but sao will every band.

04-03-05, 11:28 AM
if it would be a bonustrack, then it would be a great idea, but not a good idea if being a real part of the normal album without bonus tracks...i would really like it if they made up their own kind of pantera song, not a cover but kind of. maybe called the great northern trendkill or something. duh i dunno but it could work.

Asphyxiated.
04-03-05, 02:18 PM
i'd like to hear em cover a song live, but not hear one on an album, the album is their time, possibly like a limited edition kind of thing would be cool though, like the first 100 to each store have the track.. just an idea. i would love to hear them play somethin live though.

the b-side idea works, then use it on a single or for a soundtrack. would be lame to put it on the album. plus, it'd have to be one of the lesser known Pantera songs to make more of an impact, something like "walk" or "this love" wouldn't do anything for me.

you cant go wrong with a bit of pantera.

CultMetfan
09-03-05, 04:07 AM
as long as it's a bonus track and not part of the actual cd running order.
some covers are cool but not overall essential but as a tribute to Dimebag then I'd say go for it.

SLITrist101
09-03-05, 02:08 PM
they will do a tribute CD eventually.

do you mean a cove album by chimaira
or part of a pantera tribute CD with other bands?

It would be a good idea. Dimebag was an amazing guitarist, one worthy of all our respect. I agree that if it isnt a listed track, it should be on there, just hidden. I think Chimaira could make quite a good job of it.
