I'm just curious to see what most people here are thinking/feeling about the new line-up situation in the band. I'm sure most of us (including me) aren't set on any absolute, one way or the other, before hearing what the new line-up has to offer. Though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit melancholy being so unfamiliar with 5/6 of the members of my favorite band. Just curious what others here think at this point in time.

Im hopeful that the band will still sound great. It seems like Chimaira's light has kind of dimmed in recent months. Not much discussion online. Don't see many new youtube videos posted either. It's almost like all chimaira fans are bummed out.

I didnt like the new album. I didnt feel the infection. And i dont see things very optimistically in regards to everything in life.
So my opinion on this matter is pretty fucking void.
For every album these guys have put out, they've always managed to shut me up on my doubts. To tell you the truth they were the one band out of their peers (KSE, LOG, Unearth, Shadows Fall) who I really thought wouldn't be able to expand upon their sound from TIOR. Yet they're arguably the only band amung the ones mentioned that progressed or just didn't end up making ballads to pay the bills.
Regardless of the departed members, this band was Mark & Rob's show. Miss Andols all you want, it was Mark & Rob who wrote the drum parts for the songs as well. Andols was just sensational with fills and particular accents which of course only he could do. This isn't me trying to say that everyone else wasn't important, the point I'm trying to convey that although it's just Mark (of the original members) that's left, it's still 50% of Chimaira. That 50% is being joined by Emil, who at this point there's no one on this earth that can question how talented he is.
The Chim we grew we loved was done at CC10, no arguments there. If the new material is bad, oh well how butt hurt are you gonna be? But to not give it a chance is stupid.
They've been through worse. I don't see Chimaira going anywhere anytime soon.

The future will be very bright, love last two albums!

I have absolute confidence in the new line-up, and why wouldn't I? I know Mark is badass. Being a fan of both Daath and Bleed the Sky I know that Z, Emil, Jeremy and Austin are all badass. I hadn't heard from the new Matt before, but knowing that the other "replacements" were fantastic choices, I wouldn't worry about him either. The music is going to change, no arguing about that, but I bet they will still be awesome.

And? Same could be said about Today Is The Day, and they've been going for 15-20+ years.

Will never be the same. Sure I'll listen but I don't think I'll ever feel the connection to the band that I did almost 10 years ago when I joined the boards and heard my first bit of Chim. All these new people make the band feel cheap. Like there is no soul just a shell. Kinda like when Talley joined the band. I didnt care and he didn't fit. Now I feel that way about the whole band.

agreed. resurrection was the last good chimaira album. Aside from a few songs (mostly on The Infection) the last couple albums have been very bland sounding.

How can you say 'all these ppl make the band feel cheap'? Than you should stop to listen to Chimaira, or you have such low standards for your music?
One of the most stupid statements I've read here!
It feels.. different I guess. It doesn't feel like Chimaira anymore.
Like it'll feel weird watching the dvd's and stuff with this band that I have been listening to growing up basically.
You sort of got to know the band through the dvds, there was a special "connection" so to speak or whatever. Now all the people you
got to know are gone except for one. It won't be the same, naturally. But that doesn't mean that the music won't be good.
Also with the old dudes you kind of knew what the music would be like when the time came to release a new album, just because
you "knew the band". Fear of the unknown maybe? Will a new album be so different it won't be Chimaira? I mean sure it'll obviously be Chimaira as long as it is released under the Chimaira banner but will it have the Chimaira sound? Iiiiiiiiiiiiindeeeeeeeeeeeed.
Who knows?! ONLY CROM!!!!

I have reserved a place for the new Chimaira, but it's overshadowed by hard doubt and sadness. Sucks that all this happened, and I find TAOH to be a good album, but still somewhat lacking for whatever reason. I have confidence they can still pull out some good shit, but my undying love and fanhood took a hit. Still, I'll still stand by the band see what they do, how they sound, and what direction they head.

Oops, it's true....damn, user name is very important right, StMoolah?:)
I guess my feelings about the band are the same as a lot of others here. It's very difficult to get excited or passionate about them right now, as they have not produced anything yet in their new form. I will see them when they tour the UK next month, but I'm not particularly exxcited about it. It just feels like I'm going to see a covers band featuring Mark Hunter.
I have to strongly disagree with some peoples comments that they have gone downhill since Resurection. Honestly, The Infection is my favourite Chimaira album, and The Age Of Hell is good, although not great. I suppose it could be seen as a compliment to them that a lot of fans choose different albums as their favourites, such has been their consistency.

If you knew what StMoolah was, then you wouldnt have needed to ask.
As far as them going downhill. I dont agree with that sentiment despite not liking the last two. I flat out hated (and still do) self titled, i dont think they have gone downhill, i simply just havent liked the last two albums.
They arent like Metallica (or if you like them. Slayer) where you flat out have NO HOPE for them to release anything of value EVER again.
Im not saying the future looks bright, because im very pessimistic with alot of things in this life and i KNOW ill see the guys up to 5 times in the next month, but at least they arent into that category yet.
It's weird, but I'm actually more annoyed at the indignant remarks made by some folks in the wake of the situation that I am at the actual situation.
Shit happens. It is what it is.
Sure, it's never going to be the same, but that doesn't mean it cant be as awesome as before.
I'll go see the new line up next month for sure. And while I won't be going to all 3 Scottish shows like I had hoped, this has nothing to do with the line up change and is simply for financial reasons as if I could afford it, I would have gone to all 3 shows.
If people are so sure that the band are done for, then I wonder what brings the same people back to keep on with the same negative remarks?
I'm for one am looking forward to the reunion in 5-10 years time.....

Not worried. They made a lot of solid albums so I'm happy with that. And as people have been saying we basically grew up with chimaira and got to know the guys. So in a way I care about them individually, and I want them to be happy, so whatever they choose to do I'll support. Marks one of my favourite vocalists so whatever he's doing (chimaira) or any other project I'm keen to listen to, and I'm going to enjoy it, cause I like his style and he comes up with some pretty cool shit, vocally and musically. I'm not expecting to whatever they come up with next to be straight up chimaira, and because of that I'm more excited to hear what the new guys bring. You never know, we may enjoy it just as much or even more.. Just go into this fresh it's all part of the fan ride

Part of me is bummed that there isn't those guys around anymore that I felt like I grew up with, and that helped produce music that I love.
But the other part of me is optimistic that something new and fresh will come from it. Where that optimism is warranted or not is obviously yet to decided, until album #7 comes along (and to some extent, when I see them live in a few weeks).

Not sure I'm digging Emil's tinge on Rob's solos and the difference in rhythm patterns by that vid, but I won't take it as anything more than a rough jam at this point.
Not sure I'm digging Emil's tinge on Rob's solos .
That was my initial thought, but then I thought he is the lead guitarist now, there's no point trying to be something he's not.
I understand Emil want's to put his own spin on things, but he doesn't need to whammy scoop every damn note!!!!

I just watched the making of AoH DVD last night... it seemed weird having Emil, Sean and Austin sitting alongside Rob and Matt. It already seems like so long ago that those two (let alone Jim, Andols & Chris) were in the band, and I don't say that in a derogatory way. It felt like (in hindsight) seeing your future partner and your ex partner hanging out... weeeeeeeird. I guess in a week or so I'll know if it's good weird or bad weird.

When I voted on this I selected "I'll hold off on judgement until I hear new material from the line-up".
After seeing them at Soundwave this morning, I think I'd change it to "All is well, and I have absolute confidence in the new line-up!!". While it was strange seeing 5 new members on stage from when I last saw them in 2010, it was still Chimaira, and they were still as awesome as ever.
If you want an idea, here's Year Of The Snake from Brisbane's Soundwave yesterday:

I cant wait for new material with the new guys!
I think that will be the true test. It's one thing to play songs that already exist, and play them well. I don't think anyone here has really doubted the playing skills of any of the new members. But when they develop their own material, that will be an interesting thing... Even with Mark at the helm, it'll be interesting to see if what they come up with (while it will no doubt be GOOD) will still have that distinct and unmatched Chimaira sound and vibe... We shall see, we shall see.
Regardless of the results though, I do thank Mark and the new members for pushing on to keep the beast alive, wounded though it's been.
